Featured on Lilium Floral’s Instagram Story earlier this month, Muscari offer a unique shape, color and texture to Spring bouquets. Their blue, bell-like flowers that fall from a spiked stem resemble a cluster of grapes, making their nickname Grape Hyacinth very fitting. They just so happen to smell like grapes, too!
Muscari are not a part of the hyacinth family, despite their similar features. They’re actually a member of the Liliaceae, or lily family (see why we chose this one?). To compliment their wonderful characteristics, Muscari symbolize power, confidence and creativity -- likely due to their strong structure and blue colorway. In fields, they’re seen as blue rivers cutting through the greenery because of their big blue bunches; in bouquets, their features make for beautiful pops of color and texture. In the bouquet pictured above, we added little grapes to go along with them!
While blue is most common, Muscari can be found in other colors too — white, light pink, and light gray-blue are a few others. You’ll likely see these bells make a few more appearances in Lilium bouquets until their season ends, so be sure to look out for them!
